Hyper Light Drifter
Hyper Light Drifter is a quick, simple, and effective indie action-adventure game. It is top-down style with lots of stylish pixel graphics. The game has a pretty strong focus on combat and navigation, and it does them pretty well.
You can dash and you can slash. That's basically the combat of the game. You can chain together dash-slashes if timed properly which feels great (although it takes some getting used to what the actual timing is). Once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun. You also get limited ranged attacks so you can be as stylish as possible. It provides you with interesting challenges and the bosses are very satisfying fights.
The navigation is confusing. When it works well, it works, but sometimes it is just downright confusing. One place I got lost you have to navigate between the underground and the above-ground and it just gave me feelings of being back in Crystal City in Arlington. That being said, there are lots of nooks and crannies everywhere to get powerups and the 100%er items which are additional keys and story stones.
The aesthetics are eerily close to Hob. It's this post-multiple-apocalypse world with whooshy clothes and little dialogue. Of course this has pixel graphics and really tries hard to convey lots of simple information using its pixels. The multiple apocalypses mean there's all this different kind of wreckage you get to find, such as the massive titans which you will see throughout all the areas. Provides a good variety of palettes and looks to everything.
I would definitely recommend Hyper Light Drifter to anyone who wants something short , simple, and combat-focused. If you like top-down zelda games, check this one out. I think I got it for free with Twitch Prime, so I imagine it's pretty cheap.
