Ringfit Adventure
Ringfit Adventure is an exercise game for the Switch. You have the left joycon strapped to your thigh, and the right joycon hooked into an exercise ring. It is honestly pretty impressive how much they do with just the thigh and ring. Frankly, it’s awesome, and I recommend it to anyone who has a passing interest in gamifying exercise.
There are a variety of modes, including a simple rhythm game, setting your own exercise routines, and the adventure mode. The adventure mode is where everything is at.
The adventure mode is a very long RPG filled with jogging, exercise obstacles, and enemies that are defeated with exercises. Exercises are separated into upper body, legs, core, and yoga. Different enemies are weak to different categories, and there are smoothie power-ups that can change how things work. All this combines into a very flexible system that will give the player a pretty rounded workout. Not only that, but all the gameplay elements combine into a genuinely fun experience.
The incredible length of the rpg means that playing regularly will still take you quite a bit of time - probably about a year - to finish the story (it took me two years, but cut me some slack I had a baby). There’s a whole bunch of bizarre minigames sprinkled throughout, and if you really don’t like an exercise, you can easily avoid it.
The only real issue I have with the game is that the "game" part can sometimes take a while, making for a pretty light workout per time spent. However, you can always just go for a run or do weight training on one day, and play Ringfit the next.
Ringfit Adventure is such an effective and solid exercise game that I'm not sure how one could make it better. It is ideal. I cannot recommend it enough.
