Owlboy

Owlboy is a fun little action-adventure on steam. It’s not a top tier but it is fun and nothing like the others on here. It’s not too long, but it does plenty with its time.

You control Owlboy who can fly but cannot attack directly. Either he has to pick things up and throw them, or he has some friends he picks up who have guns. This immediately makes it feel pretty different as you have such freedom of movement.

The controls for flying feel very smooth, but trying to switch between being grounded and flying is janky and frustrating. This is something that you often need to do pretty quickly so having this issue especially in boss fights gets grating.

Owlboy has a JRPG style plot. In fact it pretty much hits all the tropes. It is written very well and the humorous parts are genuinely funny. The art style is this incredibly detailed and expressive pixel art. They clearly put a lot of effort in the pixel art.

Owlboyas some issues, but it does interesting things and pulls them off well. Check it out if you’re so inclined.
